Iceland - Bolungarvík

473 km north of Reykjavík is the northernmost settlement on the Westfjords, Bolungarvík.

The town is home to one of the country’s oldest fishing ports, which dates back to the time of the settlement. The town’s main activities mainly focus around the fishing industry with tourism playing a seasonal role.

Tourist attractions include a golf course, Natural Science Museum and Natural Research centre as well as Ósvör (Picture Below) which is not far from Bolungarvík. There, tourists can view a restored fisherman’s camp, along with an open-split shed for the drying of fish, a six-man rowboat, a boat pulley, drying grounds for salted fish and various sheds. Objects and tools from the era of rowboats are to be found both inside and outside the museum premises.
