Morrisons and Safeway Integration: The Cumbrian Holdings’ Perspective

The roll out of the Morrisons’ catalogue into their newly acquired Safeway stores is good news for Safeway customers, for Morrisons as a company and all at Cumbrian Holdings.

Preparation for this was in place over the last 12 months and provided us with the means of rewarding our supply base for their enthusiastic support and parallel investment.

During the same period, in an industry which is ever reducing in numbers, we worked hard to achieve improved levels of efficiency throughout the length of the cool chain distribution link. This chain connects the catching of raw materials from oceans across the world to the receipt at store of a product which drew the accolade from ex-Asda’s Archie Norman of “awesome” in a recent ‘Sunday Times’ article on Sir Ken Morrison CBE.

We have always shared Morrisons’ passion for quality and value and are justly proud to be part of their continuing success.

Taking the Training Initiative

In line with the Company’s aim to “SET THE INDUSTRY STANDARD”, we are introducing a training programme to be undertaken in partnership with ASSA Training and Learning Ltd.

This will give employees access to a training programme that will result in a recognised national qualification and will compliment and endorse our high standards of manufacturing excellence.

Areas to be included are:

  • Production - Operatives, Team Leaders and Supervisors.
  • Quality – Line Quality Operatives and Quality Auditors.
  • Hygiene – Operatives, Team Leaders and Supervisors.
  • Stores and Warehousing – Operatives, Team Leaders and Supervisors.

The programme will lead employees through levels 1 and 2 and Team Leaders and Supervisors to level 3 and will be phased in over the coming months.
