CUMBRIAN SEAFOODS – THE WINNING TEAM
Cumbrian Seafoods is delighted to announce that it’s recent winning run has continued by securing the coveted “Seafood Company of the Year” at the recent Food Manufacture Excellence Awards.
The awards, which are in their fifth year, assess companies’ progress across a range of criteria: from supply chain excellence to quality assurance and food safety; from process innovation to new product development; from environmental management to marketing and HR.
Cumbrian Seafoods was singled out in its category for a number of achievements:
Purchasing Strategy
“They really care,” said judge Sandra Ziles about the pioneering purchasing policy which supports sustainability and the responsible management of fisheries. Acknowledgment was also made about the use of line fishing rather than trawling. This process promotes selection of mature fish and minimal by-catch.
Community Support
Cumbrian Seafoods was recognised for its support of community projects and judge Graham Spaul noted that:
“They were the only company to have responded to the tsunami.”
HR Policy
Increased staff retention, new training programmes and improved working conditions were praised by the judging panel.
Innovation
The cornerstone of any food company, Cumbrian Seafoods was commended for its focus on new product development. They judges were impressed by the number of successful new launches over the past year and the continuing work.
Peter Vassallo, managing director of Cumbrian Seafoods was delighted with the result. “This is the first time we have entered this competition and to have our hard work recognised by such an esteemed panel is very satisfying. We are particularly proud as this award comes only two weeks after our success at the Pride of Cumbria Awards and the very positive Business Gazette review of our new website.”
Judge Paul Wilkinson summed up Cumbrian Seafoods when he said: “ A good submission for a difficult industry in a difficult location.”
